Lieutenant-General Armen Vagharshak Abazyan was born on 19 October 1971 in the town of Kirovakan, in a family of a public servant.
In 1988, he finished the Kirovakan secondary school № 18.
From 1988 to 1993, he studied at the Mechanical Engineering Faculty of the Vanadzor branch of the State Engineering University of Armenia.
From 1993 to 1994, he served in the Border Troops of the Russian Federation, deployed in the Republic of Armenia.
From 1999 to 2020, he served in the RA national security agencies, holding positions from junior criminal intelligence detective to head of a directorate.
In August 2020, Armen Abazyan was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Investigative Committee of RA, afterwards – Deputy Director of the RA National Security Service.
On 8 November 2020, by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Armenia, Armen Abazyan was appointed Director of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia.
Appointed Director of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia by the decision of the Prime Minister of Armenia on January 12, 2024.
A. Abazyan is married, and has two children.
