Sustained environmental effort in words and in deeds
Wearing work clothes and rubber gloves, accompanied by the Minister of Nature Protection and his son, the Prime Minister of Armenia was present at the startup of “Clean Homeland” nationwide program’s Three Bridges activity. Taking the opportunity, the Prime Minister told the journalists in attendance: “We shall be consistent in ensuring that this undertaking is extended to the provinces.” The head of government promised not to miss any such undertaking ahead.
Clean Homeland Program’s concept and action plan is authored by an interdepartmental commission involving “Miasin” youth movement members. The program kicked off on the International Day of Environmental Protection. Ignoring the excessive heat, hundreds of activists demonstrated in practice their determination to keep wildlife safe from pollution.
Coordinated by the Ministry of Nature Protection, the Clean Homeland program involves the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Yerevan town hall, Miasin and Clean Yerevan NGOs, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the youth wing of the RPA, as well as those specialized organizations and managing entities engaged in the gorge of the Hrazdan River.
Noteworthy is that additional garbage containers and information boards will be installed under the program. Upon program completion, a public commission will be set up to exercise sanitary control in this area.
