PM Attends “Best Armenian Student” Gala Award
Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan attended the YSU-hosted gala award of “Best Armenian Student” national contest.
Held as part of the Government’s program of activities for 2012, the contest featured on the list of priorities of the Ministry of Education and Science of Armenia.
The Prime Minister himself handed in the awards to some of the 33 award-winning students.
”I wish to congratulate all of you on this nice occasion. I am prioritizing the fact that the competition was a manifestation of the students’ self-organization. The monetary incentives and the awards you received today were meant to stimulate you on the way to getting high-quality education. Competition in the acquisition of knowledge is very important as it promotes an atmosphere conducive to greater knowledge,” the head of government said and added that the competition was going to become a traditional one.
The competition was organized in two phases: intrahigh and intercollegiate / republican. It was carried out in the following four areas: research and development, culture, art, student self-government and sports.
The competition was attended by 2-4-year students involved in the academic program of full-time undergraduate education, as well as those students having completed the first six months of the graduate program at public and State-accredited private higher educational institutions.
12 students won the first prize, 11 – the second and 10 – the third one in the “Best Student” nationwide competition.
The contest seeks to identify and encourage highly performing students in Armenia, who have distinguished themselves in research and creative activities, as well as in the areas of student self-government and sports.
After the ceremony, Tigran Sargsyan met with Armenian universities’ academic board members. The meeting discussed issues related to the ongoing educational reform, the Bologna process, as well as the future steps and programs aimed at improving the quality of education in Armenia.
