Expansion of GoA-Microsoft Cooperation Discussed





Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan received Microsoft’s chief manager for the new markets of Central and Eastern Europe Pilar Torres.

Welcoming the guest, the Prime Minister noted that information technology is one of the fastest growing areas in Armenia.

“It has great potential for development and is looked upon as one of the key priorities of the Government of Armenia,” Hovik Abrahamyan said. The Prime Minister assured that the Government Armenia is interested in continuing and expanding cooperation with Microsoft.

Given the successful experience of bilateral cooperation, Hovik Abrahamyan proposed to discuss the possibility of long-term cooperation in new areas and the implementation of new long-term programs aimed at developing the IT sector in Armenia. In this context, the Prime Minister touched on the possibility of establishing a Microsoft Ventures accelerator and a center of mobile solutions / designs on the basis of Microsoft’s innovation center.

Welcoming the Government’s drive for implementing IT development programs, Ms Pilar Torres expressed confidence that cooperation would go expanding between the sides. She noted the importance of cooperation in the fields of protection of intellectual property and citizens’ rights, as well as in the fight against cyber-crime.

Then, the parties discussed issues related to the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Armenia and Microsoft.
