Deputy PM Matevosyan and the Swedish Ambassador to Armenia underline the immediate repatriation of Armenian prisoners of war and civilian hostages held in Azerbaijan




Today, Deputy Prime Minister Hambardzum Matevosyan received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Sweden to Armenia Patrik Svensson.

The Deputy Prime Minister praised the positive dynamics in the Armenian-Swedish bilateral relations, highly assessed the Swedish Government's interest in contributing to the reform agenda of Armenia and the support provided during the 44-day war.
Ambassador Svensson highlighted the partnership with Armenia and expressed the Swedish Government's readiness to contribute to the development of democracy, the rule of law and the protection of human rights in Armenia.

During the meeting, the parties emphasized the need for an immediate repatriation of Armenian prisoners of war and civilian hostages held in Azerbaijan and agreed that the resumption of talks on a comprehensive settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict should be carried out under the mandate of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs’ format.

During the conversation, the sides referred to the humanitarian issues caused by the 44-day war, the Armenia-Turkey rapprochement process, the efforts aimed at strengthening lasting peace and stability in the region.

Discussing the issues on the agenda of the Armenian-Swedish cooperation, Deputy Prime Minister Hambardzum Matevosyan highlighted the presence of Swedish companies in the Armenian economy, particularly, in the process of road infrastructure building, as well as intensifying cooperation in the directions of judicial reform, anti-corruption fight and protection of human rights.
