Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister Arayik Harutyunyan participated today in the opening ceremony of the 33rd International Biology Olympiad at the A. Spendiaryan Opera and Ballet National Academic Theater. Teams, delegations and guests from around 70 countries took part in the event. The Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister made a welcome speech at the event, where he particularly said,
"Dear Cabinet members,
Dear members of the National Assembly,
Dear Chairman of the Steering Committee of International Biology Olympiad,
Dear attendees, guests, participants of the 33rd International Biology Olympiad,
I congratulate all of us on the occasion of the opening of the International Biology Olympiad, which is being held in the Republic of Armenia.
The honor of hosting this important event in Armenia was achieved during the 2018 Olympiad in Tehran by the decision of the International Biology Olympiad Association. We have assumed this responsibility with the greatest willingness.
As the then Minister of Education and Science, I had the honor to sign the memorandum of holding the Olympiad and I am happy that we have been consistent despite all the problems and challenges of recent years, and today the International Biology Olympiad is already becoming a reality in our country.
Education and science are one of the key fields for the sustainable development of the Republic of Armenia, and the Government is committed to ensure the rapid and qualitative development of these spheres. Especially the development of natural science will provide an opportunity to withstand the challenges of time. We are confident that it is the developed human resource that will ensure the development of both the educational system and the high-tech and strategic sectors around the world.
Sustainable development and universal well-being can only be achieved through science. I am sure that many young people participating in the Olympiad today will choose their path in the field of science and will contribute to the global development process.
The holding of the International Biology Olympiad is the confirmation of the importance and priority of science and education in Armenia. And biology, as a separate branch, is more than important. it is the basis of medicine where Armenian specialists are known for their world-class contributions.
I am confident that in the future we will have many more opportunities to raise the names of today's participants and be proud of them.
I wish the organizers, supporters, guests and especially the participants of the Olympiad a successful course, healthy and fair competition, and beautiful days to enjoy Armenia."
