Deputy Prime Minister Matevosyan receives the President of the UN General Assembly Abdulla Shahid



Deputy Prime Minister Hambardzum Matevosyan today received the President of the UN General Assembly Abdulla Shahid and the delegation headed by him.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Vahe Gevorgyan, Acting Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Armenia Lila Pieters Yahia and others also participated in the meeting.

The Deputy Prime Minister welcomed Abdulla Shahid’s first visit to Armenia and considered it symbolic, as this year marks the 30th anniversary of our country's membership in the United Nations.

Hambardzum Matevosyan highly appreciated the efforts of the President of the UN General Assembly aimed at combating the negative consequences of the pandemic and consolidating the efforts of the international community for this purpose.
During the meeting, the parties referred to the Armenia-UN partnership, emphasized the need for effective implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals in the context of the 2030 Agenda.

The Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia and the President of the UN General Assembly emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and security in the region and the supremacy of human rights. In that context, Abdulla Shahid welcomed the efforts made by Armenia in the direction of establishing stability and security in the region.

During the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister also referred to the need for UN involvement in solving humanitarian issues in Nagorno-Karabakh, and then spoke about the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, emphasizing in that context that Armenia is committed to the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship, which remains the only internationally authorized mediation format.
