Deputy PM Matevosyan participates in the 5th global meeting of WHO Emergency Medical Teams
Deputy Prime Minister Hambardzum Matevosyan participated today in the 5th global meeting of Emergency Medical Teams (EMT) of the World Health Organization, which brought together more than 500 participants from 6 WHO regions.
Formed after the devastating earthquake in Haiti in 2010, the initiative of Emergency Medical Teams has grown over the years into a comprehensive network of qualified medical teams ready to provide immediate support to the population in emergency situations.
Welcoming the participants of the 5th global meeting of Emergency Medical Teams, Deputy Prime Minister Matevosyan emphasized the need for a coordinated and unified response in order to effectively respond to global, including public health crises. In this context, the Deputy Prime Minister reaffirmed Armenia's readiness to contribute to the formation of the EMT and the effective operation of the network.
Referring to the steps taken by the Republic of Armenia to respond to the coronavirus pandemic, the Deputy Prime Minister noted that Armenia had to face a double crisis due to the war unleashed by Azerbaijan against Nagorno Karabakh in the fall of 2020. Presenting the consequences of the large-scale aggression carried out by Azerbaijan against the sovereign territory of Armenia on September 13 of this year, including the deliberate targeting of the civilian population and infrastructure, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the need to strengthen national capacities for crisis preparedness and quick response.
