We spared no efforts to hold the European Weightlifting Championship at the highest level ever. Arayik Harutyunyan
Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister, chairman of the interdepartmental commission for the preparation and organization of the European Weightlifting Championship-2023, Arayik Harutyunyan today participated in the press conference dedicated to the European Senior Weightlifting Championship.
The press conference was held at Karen Demirchyan Sport and Concert Complex in Yerevan, where the championship will be held on April 15-23. The opening ceremony will take place on April 14.
Other speakers at the press conference were the President of the International Weightlifting Federation, Mohammed Jalood, the President of the European Weightlifting Federation, Antonio Conflitti, and the Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia, Karen Giloyan.
Welcoming the attendees, Arayik Harutyunyan noted. "I am sure that we are all looking forward to the start of the championship. We are, in fact, ready, and I can say on behalf of the organizing committee that no effort has been spared to make this championship the best in the history of European championships. We are already receiving very positive feedback from our partners.
This morning I participated in the Congress of the European Weightlifting Federation, which is taking place in Yerevan. This is also a big event, and if I am not mistaken, we have never held such an event in the Republic of Armenia. In my speech, I said that the experience we have gained during these years, as well as the experience of organizing this championship, allow us to host bigger events and hope that the participants of the Congress and our partners will support us in this matter”.
Arayik Harutyunyan also noted that Armenian athletes have set a high bar for themselves and want to achieve high results. The Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister called on sports fans to be with our athletes and encourage them.
This championship is also important in the sense that along with competing in the capital city of Yerevan for winning the title of the best weightlifter in Europe, this championship is also qualifying for Paris Summer Olympic Games 2024.
In his speech, the President of the European Weightlifting Federation, Antonio Conflitti, noted that the preparations aimed at holding the championship at a high level exceeded all expectations and expressed confidence that it will be held at a high level.
In turn, the President of the International Weightlifting Federation, Mohammed Jalood, thanked the Government of Armenia, headed by the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, and the Olympic Committee for the work done. According to Mohammed Jalood, the waving flag of Armenia in the recent championships proves that the country has quite accomplished athletes in weightlifting and it is a leading sport in Armenia.
Mohammed Jalood also noted that this championship seems to be a benchmark for Armenia, which has submitted a bid for the World Weightlifting Championship 2024, and expressed confidence that there are all prerequisites to claim that position.
Then the speakers answered the journalists' questions regarding the holding of the championship in accordance with European standards, Armenia's role in setting new standards for the organization of sports events, the possibility of holding the world championship in Armenia in 2024. Details were presented on issues related to the opening ceremony, security, coverage and broadcasting of the championship.
