Arayik Harutyunyan attends the awarding ceremony of the best athletes and coaches of Yerevan
Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister Arayik Harutyunyan attended the awarding ceremony of the best athletes and coaches of Yerevan. It is being held for the second time at the initiative of Yerevan City Hall.
Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan, First Deputy Mayor Armen Pambukhchyan, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Karen Giloyan and Head of Sports and Youth Affairs Department of Yerevan Municipality Arsen Makvetsyan were also present at the event.
The 10 best athletes from Yerevan, who showed high results in the world and European championships, as well as in the Olympic qualifying tournaments in 2023, were awarded and received and certificates worth 3 million AMD. The coaches were also awarded one million AMD each. The total prize fund was 50 million AMD.
In seven sports: Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling, gymnastics, weightlifting, shooting, boxing and sambo, 10 leading young athletes of Yerevan were also awarded and encouraged.
For his great contribution to the field of physical culture and sports in the Republic of Armenia, and his long-term activities aimed at the development of the field, Harutyun Yavryan, the honored figure of physical culture and sports of the Republic of Armenia, was awarded the title of "Honorary Figure of Sports of Yerevan City".
For his contribution to the development of Greco-Roman style wrestling, long-term effective coaching and training, preparing world, European, Olympic Games champions and award winners, Hamlet Hovhannisyan, the honored trainer of the Republic of Armenia, was awarded the title of "Honorary Figure of Physical Culture and Sports of the City of Yerevan".
Vaghinak Galustyan, the world champion and the honored master of sports of the Republic of Armenia, was awarded with the commemorative medal of the 2800th anniversary of Erebuni Yerevan for his significant achievements and contributions in the field of Greco-Roman style wrestling.
Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Karen Giloyan noted that this year Armenian athletes won a total of 445 medals in various tournaments. According to him, although the year is not over yet, it can be recorded that it exceeded the 2022 figure by 40 percent. According to the deputy minister, this proves that the Armenian government is moving in the right direction and our athletes are able to wave the Armenian flag with their hard training.
