The regular meeting of the Green Armenia Platform Policy Dialogue took place

Today, the 5th session of the Green Armenia Platform Policy Dialogue was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Khachatryan, aimed at identifying gaps and opportunities for policy improvement in disaster risk reduction in the face of climate change. The meeting was attended by Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Vassilis Maragos, Resident Representative of the UNDP in Armenia Natia Natsvlishvili, Country Manager of the World Bank for Armenia Carolin Geginat, and a number of representatives of concerned state structures, diplomatic corps, academic institutions and development organizations.

Welcoming the attendees, Deputy Prime Minister Khachatryan highlighted effective disaster risk management in terms of ensuring the consistent development of the state, both in terms of risk assessment and prevention, as well as in terms of reducing vulnerabilities to climate change and developing appropriate capacities. In this context, special attention was paid to the floods that occurred in Lori and Tavush regions in May 2024 and the work carried out by the Government and international partners to manage the emergency situation created as a result.

Reflecting on the consequences of the devastating floods in Lori and Tavush regions, the participants of the session were presented with the results of the Post-Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) conducted in nine enlarged communities of the affected regions under the leadership of the Government and UNDP and in close cooperation with the EU Delegation and other development partners.

At the end of the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister expressed gratitude for the effective work done and emphasized the importance of continuing discussions in this format in terms of identifying international best practices, gaps in sectoral policies and approaches, as well as assessing the opportunities for introducing innovative solutions.
