Address by RA Prime Minister Andranik Margaryan to Participants of


Dear Participants, Guests and Hosts,


It is my pleasure to greet you at "Digitec-2006" Second International Specialized Exposition on Information and Telecommunication Technologies, which is held this year under the Month of Information Technologies launched by the Government of Armenia.


I am hopeful that the already traditional Digitec-2006, with a focus upon the representation of latest achievements available in the field of ITTs, as well as display of Armenian and foreign companies-manufactured products and promotion of their practical use, will be a success.


The ITT sector is not looked upon as a mere branch of industry by the Government of Armenia, but as an effective tool to promote the development of other sectors of economy - conducive to enhanced efficiency and transparency in the system of governance, easy access to public services, country competitiveness and higher productivity, as well as to the formation of the information society.


The success of Digitec-2005 led us to turn this exposition into a yearly one. It obviously offers good opportunities for wider IT application in Armenia, as well as initiation and strengthening of business ties.


The general policy pursued by the GoA over the recent years has been aimed at taking Armenia to the forefront of the IT sector and make of it a regional center. Present achievements instill the hope that the IT sector may provide new resources for continued growth of domestic economy and, in this regard, there is still a lot of work to do. With a view to building an information society in Armenia, along with shaping the necessary legal framework, today the Government
