Today a meeting of the state commission for preparation of the 90th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide has been held at the Office of Government under the chairmanship of Prime Minister A. Margaryan.
The commission was briefed on the progress in the implementation of the assignments given at the previous meeting, most of which had been fulfilled in time. In particular, the program of events had been finalized based on the proposals made and a number of issues addressed with relation to the built-up of archive materials and creation of photo-video films for the purposes of the International Symposium on the Armenian Genocide and Human Rights Protection. A list was out for State-ordered literature to be published in 2005 on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the Genocide. Several key points concerning the holding of commemorative masses on April 24 had been agreed with the Catholicos of All-Armenians.
The 90th Anniversary memorial function was scheduled to be held at the National Opera and Ballet Theater after Al. Spendiaryan on April 23. The commemorative campaign will start in the second half of February with an array of events hosted by scientific and educational institutions in Yerevan and different local communities of Armenia, as well as with the publication of targeted materials trough mass media.
Prime Minister A. Margaryan stressed that a special emphasis should be placed on the strength and revival of our people's morale and the re-instatement of the Armenian nationhood, as well as the need in recognizing and condemning genocide internationally as a crime against humanity in order to prevent it in future. An inter-agency commission was set up to this effect.
The Prime Minister ordered to finalize the program and the timetable of events before February 15, 2005 so as to submit the final version for next meeting
