Today a meeting of the State commission for coordination of preparations for the celebrations of Armenia's Year in France in 2006-2007 has been held at the Office of Government under the chairmanship of Prime Minister A. Margaryan.
Presidential Adviser Vigen Sargsyan, Commissioner of Armenia's Year in France, reported back the progress in the implementation of the assignments given at the previous meeting. Commission members briefed the meeting on the work done in preparation of the program of events, which was meant to include several social functions and cultural events: exhibitions, concerts, displays of manuscripts and books etc. Mr. Alexander Haroutiunyan, Chairman of Board of Public TV and Radio Company, stated that a number of arrangements had already been made with their French counterparts to ensure proper media coverage and public awareness of the celebrations.
Prime Minister A. Margaryan has stressed that this first Armenia's Year in France held under the high patronage of the two Presidents, above being the indicator of the existing good relationship between Armenia and France and a pledge for the Armenian-French friendship, is an excellent opportunity to get the world acquainted with Armenia's past and present-day history, as well as with its national and cultural values. He further noted that during his latest stay in France he had had several contacts with all the persons in charge to clarify a number of points.
Based on the draft program, the Prime Minister instructed the Commissioner of Armenia's Year in France to submit, within a week's period, proposals on the formation and the terms of reference of the task forces to be set up under the Commission. The meeting has also addressed some financial matters with relation to the projected events.
