Republic of Armenia Prime Minister Andranik Margaryan received newly appointed Ambassador of Romania to the Republic of Armenia Krina Rodik Prunariu.

Congratulating the newly appointed ambassador with the start of her diplomatic mission in Armenia, the Prime Minister expressed hope that Her Excellency's activity would promote the development and strengthening of bilateral relations and friendly ties between Armenia and Romania. Satisfied at the current status of political intercourse between the two countries, Andranik Margaryan stressed the need of further activating and broadening the scope of economic exchanges.

Emphasizing the importance of Romania's accession to the European Union as of January 1, 2007, Andranik Margaryan expressed confidence that in its new capacity Romania would make a positive contribution to the process of further development of EU-Armenia relationship and the implementation of the joint Program of Actions. Regarding our country's cooperation with the NATO in both bilateral and multilateral formats, the Prime Minister said that Armenia expected Romania's assistance and participation in the realization of the Armenia-NATO Individual Partnership Program.

Krina Prunariu assured in turn that having assumed the duties of Romanian Ambassador to Armenia, she was ready to do her utmost for the further rapprochement of bilateral relationship. "Armenia is a very important country for us, account taken of the long-standing ties of friendship binding our two countries: we have identical interests and we wish to be useful to each other," - she said.

According to the Ambassador, as a full member of the European Union, Romania was interested in the rapid development of Armenia, therefore all future initiatives and bilateral programs will be targeted at the furtherance of EU-Armenia relationship so as Armenia might at last be promoted to a long-deserved advanced and key position in South Caucasus

During the meeting, both sides emphasized the instrumentality of the Armenian community of Romania in the development of bilateral ties inclusive of the economic ones, especially as the Romanian Minister of Economy in exercise was a representative of the Armenian minority of her country.

With reference to the development of commercial and economic linkages between the two countries, Andranik Margaryan and Krina Prunariu stated that notwithstanding the recent growth in the level of trade turnover between the two countries, the latter was still far from being satisfactory. They expressed themselves for more effective realization of those arrangements reached in various spheres of economy and realization of concrete steps towards the deepening of cooperation. It was mentioned on either side that the economic exchanges and commodity circulation might be promoted, in particular, through mutually activated business contacts, enhanced cooperation between the two chambers of commerce and industry, as well as the development agencies of the two countries. In this context, the interlocutors emphasized the importance of the activities of the Armenian-Romanian commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation, the second session of which was held in Yerevan last October with the next session due to be held in Romania.

At the end of the meeting, Prime Minister Andranik Margaryan wished the newly appointed ambassador every success in her future activity and went on to assure that the Armenian Government was prepared to render a maximum of assistance to Ambassador Prunariu with the realization of her diplomatic mission in our country.
