Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan received Minister for Foreign Affairs of Latvia Artis Pabriks.
Duting the meeting, Latvia's Foreign Minister expressed hope that the newly appointed Prime Minister of Armenia would promote trade relationship between our two countries in the spirit of the ongoing effective cooperation in the sphere of defense.
Stating that the level of bilateral trade turnover was very low at this point of time, Mr. Pabriks noted that through joint economic programs, supported by improved transport communications -for example, realization of Yerevan-Riga direct flights-as well as by means of activation of cooperation in a number of other spheres, it would be possible to change the situation considerably. Characterizing the question of transport communications as the most painful, the Prime Minister suggested developing the cooperation in such prospective and mutually advantageous areas as the information technologies and the financial-banking sphere.
The parties similarly emphasized the importance of cooperation in the field of European integration, the need of using Latvias experience in its capacity of EU-member country to provide for Armenia's closer integration with the European structures. As to the strengthening of bilateral relationship, the interlocutors mentioned the important role of the Armenian community of Latvia.
At the close of the meeting, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Latvia asked the Prime Minister about the pre-election situation in Armenia and expressed hope that they would be completed successfully.
