Today RA Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan has received the delegation of heads of the republic's artistic unions who presented their concerns to the Prime Minister. In particular, a reference was made of the RA draft law on artistic unions which was submitted to the National Assembly for approval as early as in 2006. The passing of this law was said to be a burning issue for the artistic unions of Armenia, therefore, they would like it to be discussed at this late session of the newly elected Parliament.
Proposals have been made concerning the televised propaganda of our national culture, the founding of a promenade in Yerevan, decorated with numerous pieces of sculpture and dedicated to F. Nansen, Fr. Werfel and other friends of the Armenian people. The parties have also touched upon the terms of reference of those 7 artistic unions which are currently operating as non-governmental organizations. The need of providing them with a sustainable State support, developing effective schemes for their activities was emphasized on either side considering the key role they had to play under a sovereign statehood.
Serzh Sargsyan accepted their suggestion of holding meetings like this on a regular basis and noted simultaneously that the artistic unions should get rid of those practices forged during Soviet era and had to adopt modern approaches to the problems facing them.
