Today RA Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan received Director of the World Bank Yerevan Office Aristhomene Varudakis.
The Prime Minister thanked the World Bank for the support provided since independence and noted that the government of Armenia looked forward to continued and enhanced cooperation. Serzh Sargsyan stressed that his government had the firm determination of continuing with the reforms stipulated in the 5-year program of government activities as approved by the National Assembly.
First, the Director of the World Bank Yerevan Office congratulated Serzh Sargsyan on his appointment to the post of RA Prime Minister, then -for the formation of the new Cabinet and -finally -for today's approval of the program of government activities by the National Assembly. He stressed that the Bank had the mission of assisting the Government with the implementation of this Program. In briefing the Prime Minister on both completed and ongoing World Bank-supported programs in Armenia, which embrace the quasi-totality of economic sectors, Mr. Varudakis said that the current stage of the country assistance strategy would be concluded in 2008 as followed by World Bank-GoA discussions on the program of cooperation for the next 4 years. As assured by the Director of the World Bank Yerevan Office, the latter will match the 5-year program of government activities.
The Prime Minister said to be pleased with the Bank's intention to maintain the cooperation for the next 4-year period and asked the Guest to provide a broad outline of the new program.
