Today the Women's Council under RA Prime Minister has met at the Office of Government.
The Council was briefed on the proceedings of the 49th session of the UN Commission on Women's Status held from February 26 to March 12 in New York and the results of the Armenian delegation's participation therein.
The Session as preceded by a preparatory period had the goal of analyzing the achievements and the problems encountered, as well as the strategy to embrace for the fulfillment of the goals set out in the Beijing Declaration and the Beijing Framework of Action in the wake of the 23th Special UN General Assembly held in 2000.
The Armenian delegation was said to have been able to get properly prepared for the session in result of the assignments made at the sittings of the Women's Council and extended discussions held thereon. Apart from reporting back the outcome of their participation, the members of the delegation, representing both the authorities and non-governmental organizations, informed the Council on the proposals made at the Session.
Different task forces, too, have reported back to the Council the results of the work done by themselves. Accordingly, discussed were the measures taken in the educational, cultural, health care and social spheres, as well as the proposals regarding the remedies to apply for the solution of a number of issues of Council membership's concern.
