On closer examination, his models close up, the artist frequently dresses in ancient style, in the refined, magnificent exotic orders and headdresses which give a picturesque kind to the images and waken at looking on pictures various historical or literary and art associations.
In the 1990s, R. Khachatryan makes an attempt of original development of the principles of spatial painting teacher - Yervanda Kochar, creating multivariate objects, adjoining to each other under a right angle, consisting of a puff tree or the petals, turning - rotating around of various axes.
Rudolf Khachatryan is the author of some highly artistic picturesque products. His works were shown in tens of countries and received prizes and awards. The personal exhibitions of the artist in Moscow (1978, 1984), Leningrad (1979), Odessa (1979) and Yerevan (1980, 1983, 1997) were great successes.
