RA Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan's Address to Today's Conference Held at Mariott-Armenia Hotel Referred to as "Development of the Innovation Sector in Eastern European and Central Asian Countries-2007"
Dear Participants,
I greet you on the opening of "Development of the Innovation Sector in Eastern European and Central Asian Countries -2007" conference. I am glad to see such a representative delegation of businessmen, experts and officials from about two tens of countries of the world in capital of Armenia Yerevan who have come round to discuss issues of highest interest to our States against the background of quickly evolving realities.
The global economy is undergoing serious transformations, and it has become quite apparent that the intellectual technologies are assuming the role of economic locomotive in today's world. Our countries cannot hold aloof from these processes. There is no alternative to the formation of the innovational sphere and making targeted investments into all sectors of the economy if we are to keep up with economic developments worldwide.
The subject theme of the conference is high on the policy agenda of the Government of Armenia. We are going to concentrate upon the design of high-technologies, boosting of innovational activity and development of a research-and innovation-based economy in Armenia. In this respect, we prioritize the implementation of any program carried out on a public-private sector cooperation basis, the accomplishment of such measures as are susceptible to enhance the competitiveness of the private sector and the economy as a whole, the creation of appropriate infrastructures inclusive of incubators and techno-parks.
I am confident that the conference will allow local experts to get acquainted with the know-how built up in the Eastern European and Central Asian region. The great number of conference participants indicates that Armenia has become a focus of increased interest for internationally recognized research workers and entrepreneurs and instills hope that the conference may become a starting-point for effective cooperation with foreign partners in future.
I greet you once again and wish you all successful work during the conference.
