RA Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan received Head of the Anglican Church, Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowan Williams and Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II.
The meeting agenda featured discussion of issues relating to church-state interrelationship, the furtherance of friendly ties between the Armenian and Anglican churches and the two peoples, the role of the church in the spiritual and educational development of the society etc.
The Prime Minister noted that the Church of Armenia has played a crucial role in our people
's life over centuries. Today as Armenia has regained independence, in close cooperation with the State, our Church continues playing a key role in statehood-engineering-related matters.Considering that it was important to achieve mutual understanding between the State and the Church, the Archbishop of Canterbury stressed that the friendly ties between the Anglican Church and the Church of Armenia went far back into the past and expressed willingness on behalf of the Anglican Church to maintain and develop them in future:
