Today RA Prime Minister A. Margaryan has received the delegation headed by Gennady Matishov, President of the Southern Research Center of the Academy of Sciences of the Russian Federation
Welcoming the members of the delegation, the Prime Minister pointed out to the necessity of restoring former scientific ties and continuing collaboration, which would help expand Armenian-Russian bilateral relationship. As a positive step towards this end, Mr. A. Margaryan mentioned the signing of the agreement on cooperation in the fields of scientific research and technologies between the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia and the Southern Research Center of the Academy of Sciences of the Russian Federation in June, 2004. The study of the current ecological status of Lake Sevan with the view of its betterment and the creation of highly performing computation systems, collaboration in astrophysics and the energy sector were specified as areas of mutual concern in this document. Academician Gennady Matishov has stressed that the existing trends in research and technology development are much the same in both countries, which makes it possible to formulate realistic tasks and objectives and address them with success. He has also emphasized the importance of bilateral cooperation in the field of social sciences by placing a special focus on the study of regional policies, in particular.
Prime Minister A. Margaryan assured the delegation of the Armenian Government's willingness to extend any possible assistance to the efforts aimed at reanimating cooperation between the research centers of the two countries and went on to state that a key role in this matter could be played by the Armenian-Russian intergovernmental economic commission.
