 A consultative meeting has been held with RA Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan on questions of creation of opportunities for the training of Armenian students at first-rate foreign high schools, and further effective use of their knowledge to the benefit of our State, attended by Assistant to RA President Vigen Sargsyan, Minister of Trade and Economic Development Nerses Yeritsyan, President of National Academy of Sciences Radik Martirosyan, Chairman of Committee on Science of the Ministry of Education and Science, Pro-rector of the Yerevan State University Samvel Harutyunyan, Vice-president of RA NA standing commission on science, education, youth and sports affairs, assistants to ministers for foreign affairs, education and science, heads and scientists of some scientific institutes and high schools of the Republic, Minister of Education and Science Levon Mkrtchyan.



Speaking about this major task, the Prime Minister noted that during the FY 2008 draft state budget law-related discussions in the RA NA, the issue of providing support from the State budget with the purpose of assisting RA citizens with their schooling in first-rate foreign high schools. As education and science are among the priorities set by the Government of the Republic of Armenia, this question should be given special attention on the part of the Government. Attended by responsible persons and experts of this field, the meeting had the objective of listening to their opinions and proposals and to find effective decisions for the mentioned problems.



Those present discussed such approaches to the decision of the question as might imply the possibilities and mechanisms for providing both State and non-State support.



Having summed up the results of the discussion, Serzh Sargsyan singled out two approaches: to choose among our best students studying abroad and to assist them with their schooling, and to pick up among the most talented students of the high schools of our Republic and help them so as they might evince greater learning during the teaching process. The Prime Minister instructed to create a task force which, based on the results of this discussion, within a 3-week period shall submit specific proposals on the given issue in order to develop a comprehensive approach to the decision of the problem.
