Serzh Sargsyan's remarks after signing a joint declaration by the leaders of RPA, PAP and RLP
We have stated in our declaration just what we thought. However, I wish to make some comments:
The scenario which is being used to discredit the Armenian people and the RA authorities is still on, and we have to make huge efforts to persuade those behind it that they are on the wrong way.
You may be aware that for the past couple of days the situation on the border has been tense, too. Early this morning the Azeris launched an assault on one of our fighting positions and they almost managed to get control over it for a while. Through corresponding channels, we proposed to the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan to stop the provocation and withdraw from our positions but they declined our offer. I would like to advise you that as of this point of time the mentioned position is under our control and that the enemy has fled away leaving several in killed.
Secondly, I wish to assure our people that I am going to do everything in my power to bring to light the organizers and participants of mass disorders. Regardless of their former standing, current position and irrespective of the extent of complicity, they will all be brought to trial so as to rule out the recurrence of any such attempts in Armenia once and for all.
I would like to take this opportunity to urge all those having participated in these acts of vandalism to approach the law-enforcing authorities on a voluntary basis. I am sure that this will attenuate their guilt and the law-enforcing authorities will take note of this circumstance.
