STATEMENT BY GAGIK TZARUKYAN AFTER SIGNING A JOINT STATEMENT ON BEHALF OF LEADERS OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY OF ARMENIA, PROSPEROUS ARMENIA PARTY AND COUNTRY OF LAW PARTY
As chairman of Prosperous Armenia Party, on behalf of party membership, its political board and the parliamentary faction, I express complete support to the Presidential decree on introduction of a state of emergency as of March 1, 2008 in the city of Yerevan to prevent threats to the constitutional order in the Republic of Armenia, protect the rights and legitimate interests of the population which, unfortunately, was the only way out of this tense situation. And I want to express deep condolence to the families and close relatives of those who fell victim to the events of March 1. Also, want to say that we sharply condemn all these actions based on hatred, rage and grudge which could aggravate the situation even more. And the basic task of all political forces is to handle the situation in civilized and political ways instead of transforming the confrontation of political ideas into hatred and enmity. So long as we, the political forces, succeed in moving on from this field to a civilized one, our people will be able to resume normal life, and opportunities for political dialogue and discussions will open. I am convinced that national unity and the ideology of social consent must be a basis for the activities of all political forces in Armenia.
