Today chairman of the jubilee commission on preparation of celebrations of the 1600-anniversary of the Armenian alphabet, Prime minister A. Margaryan has convened a commission session at which the course of realization of anniversary events and the work carried out to fulfill the missions of the previous meeting have been discussed. According to Deputy Mayor of Yerevan Arman Sahakyan, in compliance with a previous decision demonstration boards featuring the logo of the 1600th jubilee will be installed throughout the most visible sites of Yerevan over the next few days. It was reported that in line with the established program, the scheduled preparations for "Grotz Yerth" theatrical event representing Mesrop Mashtotzs home-coming were nearing completion. The last rehearsals of this 40-minute-long dramatized performance were underway, which will start in Echmiadzin on October, 7. On October 8 events in observance of the Translators' Day will take place in Oshakan. Several other events are due to be held in the framework of the program before the end of the year, including a scientific-artistic conference referred to as "Nation's Destiny and Literature", an exhibition of Armenian books, making of a film to summarize anniversary actions, etc.
It was also mentioned that the jubilee events would be continued in Artsakh, Javakhk and the largest Armenian communities of Diaspora. With reference to the action implemented so far, it was stated that an international symposium dedicated to the 1600-anniversary of creation of Armenian script had already been organized up to the standard, "The Yerevan University Herald," "The Historical-Philological Review" and "The Armenological Review" had dedicated their columns to the Anniversary, a flower-decorated alley was founded in Nor-Nork 1 District of Yerevan, a map outlining Mesrop Mashtotz's activities in Armenia and a collection of souvenir post-cards were published in the period under review.
The meeting emphasized the need in active propaganda to carry out in both Armenia and abroad, and called for coordinated work on target distribution of the laser disk, literature and other materials issued.
