The jubilee commission on preparation of celebrations of the 100th birth anniversary of Catholicos of All Armenians Vazgen I held its first session at the Office of Government, which on behalf of Commission Chairman, RA Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan was presided at by RA Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Territorial Administration Hovik Abrahamyan.
The commission has discussed a draft program of events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Catholicos of All Armenians Vazgen I, which comprises over a dozen of events covering the scientific, educational, cultural and other spheres. In particular, a scientific conference, a festival of sacred music, different expositions of photographic and archival materials, as well as the publication of complete works by Vazgen I and open classes on the Supreme Patriarch
's life and activity will be organized in the frame of "History of Armenian Church" discipline during this summer and autumn.Under the program of action, downtown streets in Yerevan and Echmiadzin will be named after Catholicos of All Armenians Vazgen I, a Vazgen Patriarch
's scholarship will be instituted at the YSU theological department. Jubilee actions will take place in different dioceses of the Armenian Apostolic Church and in the marzes. A requiem mass will be held at the Mother See of Holy Echmiadzin and jubilee coins issued on the occasion of the anniversary.In October 2008, a gala event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Catholicos of All Armenians Vazgen I will be held at the National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater after Al. Spendiarian.
Following discussion, the draft program will be submitted to the chairman of the anniversary commission for approval.
