Today RA Prime minister Andranik Margaryan has received newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Greece to Armenia H.E. Panaiotu Mavromihali.

Having congratulated the Ambassador on the start of her diplomatic mission in our country, the Prime minister expressed confidence that the historically deeply rooted Armenian-Greek friendly relationship will henceforth develop successfully. In his opinion, the Greek President's upcoming November visit will be essential in terms of promoting the friendship and stimulating the cooperation between the two States and peoples. Emphasizing the importance of Armenia's involvement in the European Neighborhood Policy, Mr. Margaryan noted that it would raise to a new qualitative level the relations of our country both with the European Community and with EU-member countries, including Greece.

By stressing that she began her activity in our country in a period preceding the referendum on constitutional changes, H. E. Panajota Mavromihali expressed hope that along with other measures directed towards euro-integration, this referendum, too, would promote real progress of Armenia.

During the conversation the parties emphasized the importance of developing the cooperation of Armenia and Greece in the fields of defense and national security.

Prime Minister Andranik Margaryan and Ambassador Panajota Mavromihali further noted that against the background of the dynamically developing political dialogue, trade and economic relations between the two countries failed to reflect the available potential of cooperation. To activate this process and increase the volume of bilateral trade, they emphasized the necessity of holding the next meeting of the Armenian-Greek intergovernmental commission on economic, industrial, scientific and technical cooperation in the course of the year 2006. Among the most expedient and prospective areas of cooperation, the interlocutors mentioned in particular agriculture, public health services, science, education and tourism.

At the close of the meeting, the Prime minister wished Her Excellency successful accomplishment of her diplomatic mission in our country and, on behalf of the Armenian Government, expressed readiness to render comprehensive assistance to the Ambassador.
