Today the RA President-decreed State commission on preparation of events dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the 1988 December 7 earthquake in Armenia has held its first extended meeting at the Office of Government, presided at by commission chairman, RA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan. The Prime Minister noted that the commission was to discuss the drafts of the issues featuring on the agenda of the upcoming Cabinet session to be held in Gyumri so as any comments and suggestions presented by commission members are included in these drafts before said meeting.
Accordingly, the commission has discussed the concept note for addressing the housing problems of homeless households in the earthquake zone as submitted by RA Minister of Urban Development Vardan Vardanyan. It has been noted that the concept note was developed based on the program of actions dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the 1988 December 7 earthquake and complies with the provisions of the 2008-2012 government program as approved by Cabinet Decision N 320-A of April 28, 2008. Based on the findings of the analysis made of rehabilitation activities carried out in accordance with previously passed decisions, the concept note seeks to formulate the principles for a State policy aimed at resolving by the year 2013 the housing problems of those families having been awarded a status of homeless households 20 years past the earthquake. The concept note includes a situation analysis, the priorities and key areas for addressing the outstanding housing issues, a resource assessment component, an organizational scheme, as well as the corresponding action plan. The Note was said to provide a basis for the design of programs towards the resolution of the housing problems of homeless families in the earthquake zone.
The meeting has similarly discussed the State commission-drafted report concerning the cultural events to be held under the program of actions dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the 1988 December 7 earthquake in Armenia.
The Council was further presented the report on the status of the program of action as approved by the RA President-decreed State commission in the month of January, 2008.
