RA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan called a consultative meeting to discuss agricultural problems. In attendance was the Minister of Territorial Administration, the Minister of Agriculture and marz governors.
First of all, the Prime Minister stressed the need for succeeding in this spring sowing campaign. Emphasizing that agriculture is a key sector in Armenia’s economy which is given a special focus due to the global financial and economic crisis, Tigran Sargsyan said that any effort should be made to attract extra investment into this sector and support processing enterprises in order to generate lots of new jobs.
RA Minister of Agriculture Aramayis Grigoryan briefed those present on the pace of sowing activities. Then the marz governors spoke about the situation in their respective marzes and addressed questions to the Minister of Agriculture. The meeting has also discussed those steps aimed at mitigating the negative impact of the global financial and economic crisis, subsidizing high-mountain areas, providing domestic farmers with seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, irrigation water and agricultural machinery, as well as preventing springtime inundations and other issues of topical interest.
The Prime Minister assigned the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs to discuss with the Minister of Agriculture the possibility of organizing public works in marzes to provide rural population with employment.
In conclusion, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan stressed once again the importance of successful and timely implementation of sowing activities so as to meet the targets set in this field.
