RA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan received a delegation led by Deputy Secretary General of NATO, Ambassador Claudio Bisognero.

The meeting agenda featured discussion of Armenia-NATO cooperation-related issues.

The Deputy Secretary General expressed satisfaction at the current status of bilateral cooperation and Individual Partnership Acton Plan implementation. At the same time, he said to be in favor of the further development and strengthening of interaction.

According to Mr. Bisognero, despite the progress made over the past few years, there is still much to do in the area of defense, prevention of emergency situations and human trafficking, anti-terror action, energy safety and legislative reform, in particular.

Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan conveyed Armenia’s interest in developing relations with the NATO and other authoritative international organizations inclusive of the European Union. He emphasized that the Government of Armenia appreciates the assistance received from the NATO and member States under the Individual Partnership Action Plan. According to the head of government, our country is keen on expanding cooperation in all areas of partnership inclusive of international peace-making efforts, economic security, crisis management, public information etc.

Tigran Sargsyan noted that the recently established Ministry of Emergency Situations will help address more effectively the tasks set in the area early warning and quick response as they are high on the agenda of bilateral cooperation.

At the request of the Guest, the Prime Minister presented his government’s steps towards mitigating and overcoming the negative impact of the global financial and economic crisis.

The parties have concurred in that the crisis may help step up reform, achieve greater involvement of youth in these processes and provide for higher rate of transparency.

The parties also referred to regional security-related questions, inclusive of the Karabakh peace process and the latest developments in the settlement of Armenia-Turkey relations.
