RA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan held a consultative meeting on the United Nations Poverty and Environmental Initiative Program. The meeting was attended by both RA government members and regional coordinators from Europe and the CIS, headed by UNDP Deputy Permanent Representative Dirk Boberg.
The Poverty and Environmental Initiative was launched during a seminar held last December in Slovakia. Then, RA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan suggested the UNDP Armenia office to endorse the setting up of a poverty reduction and nature protection task force under the National Sustainable Development Council (NSDC). Dirk Boberg advised that based on said proposal and assisted with a fact-finding mission, the regional group of the UNDP is currently developing technical assistance mechanisms for the NSDC.
Tigran Sargsyan thanked the delegation for prompt response to his proposal and went on to assure that his government will continue implementing poverty reduction and nature protection-oriented programs and will back the efforts of the local task force of the UNDP as much as possible.
