RA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan attended the opening session of the international forum, entitled “The impact of the global on Armenia: short-term and long-term prospects.” The forum is hosted by the Armenian Group of International Economic Researches.
Addressing forum participants, Tigran Sargsyan expressed hope that the surveys submitted to the forum will be useful to both the Government and experts. Then, the Prime Minister spoke bout Armenia’s efforts towards becoming an open economy, the landmarks on this path, as well as the local implications of the global financial and economic crisis.
Tigran Sargsyan briefed the forum on his government’s ongoing and strategic anti-crisis actions. He said that those shrinking construction-conditioned downward trends in economy as noticed over the last 5 months may take a while to turn around, with some improvement to be expected by the end of this year. Under these circumstances, the Government is not going to cut back expenditure and will try to offset the impact of the global crisis by engaging additional resources in cooperation with international financial institutions and partner States.
