The people of Armenia suffered a heavy loss: on January 10, 2010, in his 87th year of life outstanding statesman, public figure and scientist, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, major-general in resignation Fadey Tachati Sargsyan died suddenly.
His full-fledged life and activities were closely interrelated with the development of our country, statehood building, strengthening of all spheres of life in Armenia.
Fadey Sargsyan was born on September 18, 1923, in Yerevan.
In 1940-1942, Fadey Sargsyan studied at the Yerevan Polytechnics. He followed up his education at Leningrad’s Military Electro-Technical Academy of Communications after S. Budyonni which he graduated from in 1946 with honors diploma. Fadey Sargsyan was a Great Patriotic War Veteran.
Between 1946 and 1958, he held a number of responsible posts at the Scientific and Technical Committee of the General Department of Missiles and Artillery of SU Ministry of Defense. In those years, he made direct contribution to design and launch of radar-tracking military hardware for the Soviet Army.
In 1958-1959. F. Sargsyan was SU Defense Ministry’s senior military representative in a number of military factories, including Yerevan’s R&D Institute of Computing Machines by the Ministry of Radio-Industry of the USSR. In 1963, he was appointed chief engineer of the same institute, followed by the post of director which he held in 1963-1977.
Great is Fadey Sargsyan’s contribution to the formation of such new scientific and technical field of activity as the specialization of YRDICM’s work toward the design of automatic control systems of military assignment. Thanks to his efforts, Armenia’s scientific and engineering potential was involved in the campaign for decision of key tasks of defensive importance.
He was at the heart of initiatives toward the development and application Hrazdan, Nairi and other types of computing machines which were widely used in different branches of national economy.
In 1977-1989, Fadey Sargsyan held the high post of Chairman of Council of Ministers of the Armenian SSR. In this new capacity, he made huge efforts toward the development of advanced industries, agriculture, construction, transport, communications, culture, research and development in Armenia contributing greatly to the well-being of our people.
In 1993-2006, Fadey Sargsyan headed Armenia’s National Academy of Sciences. Under his management great work was done in terms of organizing scientific activities at the Academy, preserving and developing scientific potential, expanding international scientific cooperation.
In 2006, he was appointed Adviser to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia.
Fadey Sargsyan actively participated in the creation and becoming of our newly independent republic, Nagorno-Karabakh’s fight for self-determination, strengthening of Armenia-Diaspora linkages.
He was elected member of supreme councils of former Soviet Union and ASSR, as well as member of RA national assembly of first convocation.
F. Sargsyan was holder of Saint Mesrop Mashtots Order, Lenin Order, several other high State awards and medals. He was awarded Saint Sahak – Saint Mesrop Order of the Armenian Apostolic Church, State prizes of the USSR and the Ukrainian SSR.
His merits of scientist and organizer were appreciated by his election as a foreign member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, member of academies and scientific communities of other States.
Our people will remember for ever Fadey Tachati Sargsyan the outstanding statesman, public figure, talented scientist and organizer.
Government Commission
Established in connection with the demise of outstanding Armenian statesman, public figure and scientist Fadey Sargsyan, the Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan-headed government commission informs that a funeral meeting will be held on January 12, 17:00 local time, at Zarobyan 10/1, Yerevan.
As of noon January 13, Fadey Sargsyan’s body will lie in State at the Chamber Music House after Komitas. The ceremony of burial will take place in the municipal pantheon of Yerevan starting from 14:00 local time.
