New head of UN office in Armenia welcomed by Prime Minister
Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan received newly appointed UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia Dafina Gercheva.
The Prime Minister congratulated Ms. Gercheva on appointment and thanked in advance for her mission of high responsibility. Tigran Sargsyan expressed our country’s appreciation of UN-Armenia cooperation focusing on the need of ensuring continuity in joint programs.
Providing for balanced territorial development and enhanced governance efficiency to combat corruption risks, ensuring equal terms of economic competition and creating better conditions for small and medium-size enterprise through simplified fiscal policy were said to be high on the cooperation agenda. Science and high technologies, poverty reduction, as well as public healthcare and gender policies were cited as priority areas of interaction.
At the request of Ms. Gercheva, the Prime Minister briefed her on his government’s anti-crisis actions.
The United Nations Resident Coordinator noted that most of the UN-supported programs proved successful in Armenia and that the experience obtained might well serve during future action.
