Jubilee commissions met in a session
Today a session of jubilee commissions on preparation of 750th anniversary of medieval Armenian architect, miniaturist and master of “khahkars” Momik and 150th anniversary of great artist Vardges Surenyants was held at the Office of Government, presided at by chairman of the commissions, RA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan.
The session discussed a broad range of yearlong events to be held in both Yerevan and marzes under various cultural programs subject to the commissions’ approval.
Actions on Momik’s 750th anniversary will be held in Vaiotz Dzor marz - the great master’s native land – including the opening of Momik’s museum in Noravank, the reopening of a picture gallery in Yeghegnadzor, as well as an exhibition of young artists’ and sculptors’ works entitled “The medieval miniature and sculpture of Gladzor in my imagination.” A scientific workshop will be organized on Noravank, with an essay contest to be held in high schools referred to as “What do I know about Momik?”
As far as the 150th anniversary of Vardges Surenyants is concerned, an exhibition will be organized in the National Picture Gallery of Armenia and a catalogue will be published. In 2011, The Vardges Surenyants-150 multimedia edition will be released, a jubilee collection of Armenian fairy tales will be reprinted with the painter’s illustrations. Souvenir postcards will be issued in the same year. It is proposed to launch Vardges Surenyants scholarship in Yerevan State Academy of Fine Arts. The Holy See will organize a scientific session dedicated to the famous artist. Finally, jubilee stamps and a film will be released on the 150th anniversary of Vardges Surenyants.
The programs of jubilee actions discussed at the meeting were approved by the commissions. Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said all acceptable proposals made by commission members should be taken into account and included in the programs of anniversary events.
