Lake Sevan water level-related problems discussed at Government
Today a consultative meeting was today held at the Office of Government, chaired by Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan.
Minister of Nature Protection Aram Harutunyan presented the dynamics water level increase in Lake Sevan for the years 2002-2010 stating a yearly average rise of 0.36 He reported that the timetable submitted on the part of the Commission on Lake Sevan Problems by RA President provides that during 23 years - from 2009 to 2031 - water level in Sevan will have to be increased 4.65 meters with an average rise of 15-20 cm per year. However, a number of challenges have emerged due to the progressive rate of increase. To address them, those task forces established by the commission on Lake Sevan problems by RA President, as well as by the ministers of urban development, nature protection, transport and communication, energy and natural resources have conducted individual surveys into the expected dynamics of increase of water level in Lake Sevan. Based on the findings of these surveys, they outlined the scope of anticipated actions.
Commission chairman Vladimir Movsisyan briefed the meeting on the current state of affairs and presented ways out of it.
Summing up the discussion, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan charged all the ministries and government departments concerned to formulate in writing the problems faced within a week’s time and submit proposals for their solution.
