The Prime Minister attends the opening of Armenia’s veterinary, anti-epidemic and diagnostic center
Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan took part in the opening of the central veterinary laboratory in Erebuni community of Yerevan. Armenia’s veterinary, anti-epidemic and diagnostic center has been upgraded in the framework of “Fight against Avian Flu” program with the help of the World Bank, the Japanese PHRD, as well as by using the proceeds of the Avian and Human Flu Organization’s Multi-Donor Fund’s grants (USD 1.5mn). The opening ceremony was also attended by World Bank Vice President for European and Central Asian region Philippe Le Hueroux.
After cutting off the symbolical ribbon round the Center’s main entrance Tigran Sargsyan and Philippe Le Hueroux toured the premises to get acquainted with Lab’s facilities.
The refurbished and upgraded center currently extends over an area of 3200 sq. m. instead of the former 700 square meters. Each unit has its own lab. It meets the second-grade biological safety and international licensing standards. The Lab has a twofold activity focus: food security and diagnostics of veterinary diseases which are detected by means of highly sophisticated tests. A quality control system will be applicable in the laboratory.
Technical assistance and the needed installations were provided by the Greek Government, the USAID, the FAO, as well as the US Defense Threat Minimization Agency.
In conclusion, the head of government answered the journalists’ questions.
