The Prime Minister congratulates VivaCell-MTS on commissioning a 4G network
Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan attended today the launch of a 4G new-generation network at VivaCell-MTS headquarters. The first test operation function was also attended by Minister of Transport Manuk Vardanyan, Head of Public Services Regulatory Authority Robert Nazaryan, other dignitaries.
The event kicked off with the opening remarks of VivaCell-MTS CEO Ralf Yirikian who evoked the preparations and presented the opportunities offered by this 4G network of new generation. A real-time LTE modem-aided data reception and transmission test was said to have been operated involving the www.gov.am website, in particular. Ralf Yirikian said Armenia is the first country in the region and the tenth in the world to commission a LTE technology-based network of new generation.
Complimenting the company, Tigran Sargsyan underscored that innovative approaches in the field of telecommunications meet the government’s drive for developing information technologies in Armenia: “I am glad to state that VivaCell-MTS was the first company to bring the 4G into Armenia. This is sure to foster development of information technologies in the country. It is not a secret that two years ago we lagged behind our neighbors in terms of accessibility and affordability, pricing and competitiveness, in particular. Notwithstanding, Armenia made serious progress over the last couple of years providing greater accessibility and competition, new tools and services. We have witnessed the birth of numerous IT enterprises recently.”
Tigran Sargsyan hailed the company for holding events like this as they may go a long way toward promoting investments and creating more favorable conditions for the development of information technologies.
Based on long-term evolution 4G/LTE technology, the network provides reliable and high-quality communications infrastructure for super-fast data transfer enabling new services and higher capacities facilitated by broadband data transmission. The first stage of VivaCell’s 4G project will cover Kentron and Arabkir district communities of Yerevan.
