Tigran Sargsyan and Asad Alam trace out areas for deepening cooperation
Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan received today WB Regional Director for Europe, Central Asia and South Caucasus Asad Alam.
Discussed were issues concerning Government-World Bank cooperation. Mindful of ongoing projects’ continuity, the parties have discussed ways of furthering interaction in the framework of Country Partnership Strategy for 2009-2012 and looked at such areas as might be financed on the part of the Bank. In particular, priority was given to joint efforts in agriculture, healthcare, education and public sector reform.
Prioritizing the development of the farming sector, Tigran Sargsyan presented the cabinet sitting-backed sustained rural development strategy for 2010-2020. In this respect, the head of government highlighted the steps toward promoting and refurbishing agricultural cooperatives, developing animal husbandry and the seed–breeding industries.
In the context of healthcare reform, the Prime Minister stressed the need for upgrading the existing clinics and hospitals in line with the international standards, enhancing the quality of services, training the medical staff and introducing a unified system of registration. The high school licensing problem was prioritized in the system of education.
Concerning the public sector reform, Tigran Sargsyan gave details of PIU-ministry staff integration processes. Capacity building in the system of governance was said to be the next step on this way.
