Consultation on child protection issues
Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan received today the representatives of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and Armenian Relief Society.
A reform agenda has been discussed covering the status and priorities of children’s rights, as well as the key factors influencing this field in Armenia.
The need for having a finalized child protection strategy was stressed in a bid to improve the welfare system for needy children suffering from various disabilities and deprived of parental care. As a primary measure, an international forum will be held in Armenia involving those agencies interested in the application of integrated social services.
The meeting next looked at the possibility of providing accommodation to asylum-leaving teenagers. In this connection, the Prime Minister briefed those present on the State support program intended for homeless children and implemented through the social housing fund of Armenia. The conduct of relevant public awareness raising efforts has been prioritized in this context.
