Pace of business environment-related reforms discussed
The Business Support Council met in the Office of Government, chaired by head of council, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan.
Underscoring the importance of business-friendly reforms, the head of government reminded that securing a place within the top 10 ranking of Doing Business was one of the priorities of the President’s electoral platform.
Speaking on the pace of those drastic measures aimed at improving the business environment, First Deputy Minister of Economy Karine Minasyan highlighted the following steps implying simplified tax and customs procedures (reduced frequency of tax returns and fiscal contributions, simpler customs and business startup formalities, foreign trade and small and medium-size enterprise boosting activities and so on).
The council next heard the comments of business community representatives on Armenia’s business and investment environment and the outlook of economic development. Appreciative of most of them, the Prime Minister charged the council members and the heads of corresponding agencies to discuss the proposals within the council’s working groups.
National Farmers’ Union (NFU) chairwoman Rosa Tsarukyan came up with a number of proposals regarding the development of the agricultural sector. The proposals were said to have been worked out in the wake of discussions held with marz-based stakeholders. Rosa Tsarukyan advised that NFU local councils had been set up in a bid to enhance the efficiency of agricultural policy.
