Tigran Sargsyan welcomes Stefan Fule




Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan received EU Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule.

Greeting the guests, the Prime Minister thanked them for a warm welcome extended to him in Brussels. He went on to stress the importance of those meetings had with European officials by noting: “We are enthusiastic about our cooperation with the EU. It is a good opportunity for giving a new scope to reforms.” The head of government noticed that the European Union is playing an increasingly growing role in Armenian reforms.

Thanking Tigran Sargsyan for reception, Mr. Fule noticed that there is a good opportunity for giving a new scope to comprehensive reform underway in Armenia which would add to bilateral cooperation’s efficiency and would help define the toolkit necessary for assisting Armenia. Stefan Fule said Tigran Sargsyan’s recent visit to European Union had been quite effective.

The parties went on to discuss the pace of reforms, including the Government’s latest initiatives in the field of public services which seek to improve the quality of State-administered services. The Prime Minister described them as a priority measure since effective control may check corruption risks improving the business environment. Staefan Fule said to be supportive of said reforms. Stressing the importance of a deep and comprehensive free trade agreement to be signed between Armenia and the EU, the interlocutors touched on the question of simplified visa requirements with the European Union.

The meeting agenda comprised the following items as well: possibility of setting up a commission on ethics of high-ranking officials, democracy, human rights and energy.
