Prime Minister and MCC CEO visit Ararat marz
Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan traveled to Ararat marz where he participated in the opening of the Armarsh pump station as rehabilitated in the framework of the MCA-Armenia program. The event was also attended by Millenium Challenge Corporation CEO Daniel Yhannes, Vice Prime Minister Armen Gevorkyan and U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Marie Yovanovitch.
MCA-Armenia made an investment equivalent of USD 2,892,000 funding the replacement of all pumps and engines, electrical devices and cables, the capital repair of the water collector and the premises, the installation of a sand trap. The Armash pump station supplies irrigation water to Armash and Surenavan communities of Ararat marz covering an area of about 1481 hectares by means of 4 water-mains.
The Premier’s next port of call was the Avshar-Aigevan pump station where construction work is still underway. The MCA-Armenia has made an investment equivalent of USD 1,383,000 to build a completely new facility. The station irrigates some 1300 hectares in Yeghegnavan, Avshar and Aigevan communities.
The MCC will have invested a total sum of USD 41million into 17 pump stations of Ararat, Armavir, Aragatsotni, Gegharkunik and Syunik marzes of Armenia by the time the program is complete. Ararat marz, which hosts the pump stations of Armash and Avshar-Aigevan, is the most important beneficiary of MCA-Armenia investments with a total cost of USD 13mn covering the Irrigation Infrastructure Rehabilitation and From Water to Market activities.
