Armenia’s Competitiveness Rating Improved
A cabinet sitting was held today, chaired by Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan.
To begin with, congratulating Armenia’s national football team members on their latest brilliant win on behalf of the government, the Premier addressed words of appreciation to the Football Federation of Armenia and its executive head. Tigran Sargsyan said to be enthusiastic about the fact that football is on the upgrade in Armenia.
With reference to Armenia’s national competitiveness report according to which the country has considerably improved its competitiveness rating, the Prime Minister prompted the heads of ministries and government agencies to promote revenue collection nationwide.
The meeting endorsed Armenia’s hydropower development strategy setting out clear-cut objectives, targets and principles for this sphere.
The strategic paper is supposed to lead to additional 450Mwt capacity generated at home, boost the use of domestic recycled resources minimizing Armenia’s dependence on hydrocarbon fuel imports and reducing the impact of greenhouse gas emissions.
The public utility regulatory authority was told to abide by the principles stipulated in the aforementioned strategic program.
The government approved the gas-chemical industry rehabilitation program and passed a decision directing the public utility regulatory authority to establish a cap of 30Mwt over newly built small HPPs.
The meeting backed a set of amendments to previous decrees in a bid to enhance management efficiency in the following State-run non-commercial entities: Reservation-park complex; Khosrov public forest-reserve, Shikahogh public reserve, Lake Arpi national park, Arevik national park, Dilijan national park. A governing board is to be set up entrusted with management and oversight functions.
The Ministry of Culture was earmarked AMD50mn to allocate to the Armenian Contemporary Music Center NGO for organization of a series of concerts involving foreign artists as dedicated to the Armenia’s independence 20th anniversary.
The meeting made a distribution of funds available for individual publications and legal entities under the Support for Literary Publications program. The decision seeks to promote publication of didactic and popular-science literature for children, both translated and drafted in Armenian.
The cabinet decided to assign to Teryan Cultural Center association 145 sq. m wide semi-basement premises at Teryan-72, Yerevan for free use over a period of 10 years.
Whereas Armenia’s 20th independence anniversary is due on September 21, as well as considering Yerevan Mayor’s proposal, the government ruled that Yerevan Day should be marked on September 21, 2011 in order of exception.
