High-Level Organization Due For Independence 20th Anniversary Celebrations

The State commission on preparation of events dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Armenia’s independence met at the Office of Government, chaired by commission head, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan.

Greeting the participants, the Prime Minister pointed out: “We have come together to provide for high-level organization of Armenia independence 20th anniversary celebrations. We are here to review and discuss the proposed programs and problems. The festive mood of independence 20th anniversary celebrations should be communicated to all the nation.”

Coordinator of celebrations, deputy head of presidential staff Vigen Sargsyan said organizational efforts keep going on according to schedule.

In particular, Republic Square will first host a military parade and later on a concert of classical music attended with sound and light effects on September 21. On Independence Day, concerts referred to as “You are Armenia” and exhibitions describing Armenia’s independence will be held in Yerevan’s districts and in the provinces. Chaired by Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II, a nationwide blessing will be chanted at Saint Gregory the Illuminator’s Cathedral. All key buildings in Yerevan will get the relish of artistic illumination on the occasion.

During the exchange of views that followed, the ministry and agency heads in attendance reported back the pace of events under their responsibility.

The head of government told them to address the problems encountered as quickly as possible so that the festive events could live up to the occasion and meet the proposed timetable.
