PM Hands Awards To Representatives Of Different Spheres On Independence 20th Anniversary

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of independence of the Republic of Armenia, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan hosted a reception at the Government’s Big Conference Hall, attended by public servants, scientists, cultural figures, athletes, mass media representatives.

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of independence of the Republic of Armenia and for significant contribution to different spheres of activity, a number of persons were awarded with the Premier’s commemorative medals and letters of appreciation.

On the sidelines of the event, photographer Ruben Mangasaryan’s exhibition was inaugurated involving his independence-dedicated works.

Congratulating those present on the 20th anniversary of independence of Armenia, Tigran Sargsyan stated in part: “Dear compatriots, ladies and gentlemen,

In a few days we shall be celebrating the 20th anniversary of Armenia’s independence.

It is symbolical that it was just here - in the hall next to us – that 20 years ago Armenia was proclaimed an independent State. Independence is first of all a choice. The choice is an opportunity for any human and in our case it was the realized choice of our nation, our citizens which was made through a referendum, and we chose independence.

We have told “YES” to independence and proclaimed the Republic of Armenia as a State for the whole society where each citizen is responsible for the country.

The responsibility of Armenia’s citizens and Armenians all over the world was put to trial at once. The test was a hard one and at first sight it seemed beyond the country which had not yet recovered from the devastating quake of 1988.

In these photos of remarkable photographer Ruben Mangasaryan we can see the documented history of those tests - the path marked by our newborn State’s will, strength and belief. Our independence began with a war imposed on us which won.

Independence is a display of maturity when we dispose of our lives. We organize our present day and plan the future ob our own. Today we need to triumph under peaceful conditions. New victories will come around only if the citizens of Armenia value their public role making a display of high responsibility.

The generation of independence is rising in Armenia consisting of teenagers and youngsters born in independent Armenia. We are obliged to do our utmost for this generation. Each of you is an example to youth. By your business, civic stand and professional qualities you must provide a guideline for the generation of independence.

Congratulating all of you Once again on the 20th anniversary of independence of the Republic of Armenia, I wish you robust health and long years of life. We have passed these twenty years together. These twenty years were a test which we have overcome ushering in the age maturity with the strong belief and vision that the future will be ours.

Glory to the Republic Armenia,

Glory to the Armenian People”
