Over 1100 Tons Of High-Grade Seeds Imported
Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan called at Masis railway station to attend the unloading of over 1100 tons of elite wheat seeds imported from Russia’s Stavropol region.
The experts and program beneficiaries in attendance briefed the Premier on the quality of imported seeds. He likewise was informed that the 950 tons of seeds imported last year resulted in 220 thousand tons of first-reproduction wheat against the crop of 183 thousand tons in 2010.
2900 tons of first-reproduction seeds so produced will be distributed among 9-10 thousand program beneficiaries with 0.4-3 ha cultivated land. The cost of 1 kg imported seeds was reduced too as compared to last year. Last year Russian wheat seeds were imported at about $1 for kilogram, while this year’s cost is only 75 cents.
Note that this is the second consecutive year elite seeds have been imported under a seed-breeding program as developed by the Ministry of Agriculture and approved by the Government for the period 2010-2014.
