PM: We Cannot Achieve Conception Of Justice Unless We Refresh Our Ideals
Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan who is in Bucharest to participate in the expanded session of the European People’s Party (EPP) and in the proceedings of EPP Summer University and the European Ideas Network, delivered a speech at the “Black Sea Region: Formation of European Influence” first plenary session of the conference.
Tigran Sargsyan referred to the challenges faced on the way to building a fair society noting that justice can first of all be achieved through adherence the national merit systems and it seems to be clear that economic and social welfare must harmonize with said systems.
Concerning the introduction of European values, fresh endeavors were said necessary in transition countries. Given the wide gap between the actual and proclaimed values, some groups suggest anti-democratic authoritarian models of development.
In this respect, the head of government emphasized the need for signing a deep and comprehensive free trade agreement as the pledge of Europe’s trust in reforms.
“Today more than ever Armenia needs getting a measurable outcome of joint programs that can inspire our citizens ahead on the path of reform.” Noting that Armenia is gradually recovering from the global financial crisis, the Prime Minister said, “Our team has seriously boosted the efforts toward shaping new institutions, developing good governance and introducing European standards.”
The Premier stressed that the technical assistance and direct budgetary support from the European Union is crucial for making these efforts more efficient. “We are looking forward to having Europe’s response to the challenges due in the 21st century. We should reconsider some fundamental values and ideas as we face the threat of relativism and exasperated conservatism. We cannot achieve a conception of justice unless we refresh our ideals,” Tigran Sargsyan concluded.
